Cook Out is open for business on Aiken’s Southside
People hungry for some fast food have a new place to go in Aiken.
Messages posted on Cook Out’s Facebook and Twitter accounts on Wednesday night announced that the privately-owned restaurant chain’s location at 2086 Whiskey Road “is officially open” for business.
Aiken’s Cook Out is between a Sonic Drive-In and a CVS Pharmacy.
Menu options at the new eatery include hamburgers, chicken breast sandwiches, chopped pork barbecue, chicken nuggets, chicken strips, corn dogs, wraps, quesadillas and milkshakes.
In June 2017, Cook Out-Whiskey Road Inc. purchased the Whiskey Road site for $725,000, according to Aiken County land records.
There was a building on the property that used to be the home of a Payless ShoeSource.
In June of this year, workers completed the demolition of the Payless structure, and then construction of the Cook Out eatery began.
Morris Reaves founded the Cook Out restaurant chain in 1989 in North Carolina. It has more than 200 locations. The first in South Carolina was established in 2010 in Spartanburg.
In addition to the Palmetto State and North Carolina, there are Cook Out restaurants in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
Augusta has several Cook Out locations.
In October 2016, Cook Out-Aiken Inc. paid $175,000 for property where a McDonald’s formerly stood at 1810 Richland Ave. W. in Aiken.
But there hasn’t been any construction activity yet at that location.
“They do have an approved site plan for Richland Avenue,” Aiken City Planner Ryan Bland said Thursday. “But we haven’t heard anything from them since the site plan was approved. ”
A list of eateries that are “coming soon” on the Cook Out website doesn’t include the Richland Avenue location.
