Primedia Buying Teen Beat, Tiger Beat
NEW YORK (AP) _ The publisher of Seventeen is adding more popular teen magazines to its collection.
Primedia Inc. announced Tuesday it will acquire the publisher of Teen Beat, Tiger Beat and other teen-idol publications, New York-based Sterling/Macfadden Teen Network. It also will purchase another small teen-oriented publisher, Laufer Publishing Co. of Studio City, Calif.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Seventeen is already the best-selling teen magazine with circulation of about 2.4 million. The acquisitions will allow Primedia to further attract advertisers who covet the free-spending youth market.
Sterling/Macfadden also publishes Teen Beat Allstars, Sixteen, Sixteen Superstars, Superteen and Teen Machine. Laufer publishes BOP and BB magazines.
Primedia’s other publications include New York, Soap Opera Digest and Weekly Reader.
