Police suspect suicide in North Olmsted overpass death

NORTH OLMSTED — The man who jumped from an Interstate 480 overpass and into oncoming traffic Wednesday died as a result from suicide, police said.

The 31-year-old man of Olmsted Township died just before noon after he jumped from the Stearns Road overpass on I-480 when the semi hit him in the westbound lanes of the highway, North Olmsted police said.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man, but cleveland.com does not name those who die from suicide.

Police said the white semi did not stop following the collision.

Authorities were able to track down the semi and the driver Thursday. The driver told police he was unaware that he had hit anyone, investigators said.

Police have not filed charges against the driver.

The crash closed I-480 for two and half hours Wednesday afternoon. It reopened about 2:45 p.m., police said.

The crash is still under investigation, police said.
