Wildlife in Kankakee

December 20, 2018

Sharlene Parr, a commissioner for the Kankakee River Valley Forest Preserve District, took some photos in Kankakee this past week.

One is a shot of a doe on River Road near Ice Valley Ice Center ice rink. “I thought it looked like a reindeer playing ‘reindeer games’ and getting ready for the big night with Santa,” Parr laughed.

In the other photo, an eagle was spotted in a tree across the river from Parr’s house along the Kankakee River. “My neighbors and I along this stretch of the river see one or two adult eagles at least a few times a week,” Parr said. “To me, they appear to be a mating couple as it’s definitely a male and a female together. They hunt for fish and waterfowl regularly. There has been such an increase in the local eagle population over the last several years.”
