A man returning from work was mugged in the parking lot of his West Side apartment building early Monday morning, with the robbery thwarted when another car pulled into the lot.

The mugging happened at 12:05 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the complex at South Gammon Road and Flower Lane, Madison police said.

The 32-year-old victim told police he just got home from work when two armed men approached him.

“One gunman put a handgun to the victim’s neck, demanding money,” said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. “He told the men he had no cash.”

The two robbers fled on foot when a car pulled into the parking lot.

“The victim was very frightened and didn’t immediately know what to do, so he didn’t contact police until Monday afternoon,” DeSpain said.

The first suspect is black, teens to early 20s, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, thin build, wearing a maroon-colored hooded sweatshirt.

The second suspect is black, teens to early 20s, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, stocky build, wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Both were wearing masks over the nose and mouth during the mugging.
