Admirals 37, Rhein Fire 25
DUESSELDORF, Germany (AP) _ T.C. Wright scored on a 4-yard run with 1:54 remaining Saturday as the Amsterdam Admirals rallied to beat the Duesseldorf Rhein Fire 37-25 in the World League of American Football.
Wright’s run capped Amsterdam’s comeback from a 25-17 deficit with under five minutes remaining. His TD was set up by quarterback Brad Lebo’s 42-yard run.
Safety Ron Carpenter sealed the win with time running out when he picked off a pass from Rhein Fire QB Andy Kelly and returned it 29 yards for a TD.
Amsterdam finished the season at 9-1, while Rhein Fire fell to 4-6 in front of 7,871.
The Admirals had clinched a berth in the World Bowl on June 17 against Frankfurt after going 5-0 in the season’s first half.
Amsterdam, which boasts the league’s No. 1 defense, took a 7-6 lead at the half, scoring on a 34-yard pass from Lebo to Sanjay Beach.
The Rhein Fire scored on an 8-yard run by Jay Hillman just after the two-minute warning, one of his two TDs.
