Alabama football: Tide adds two more to 2018 recruiting class

TUSCALOOSA — Alabama’s hot on the recruiting trail.

Hours after adding four-star cornerback Nadab Joseph to its 2018 recruiting class late Tuesday night, the Crimson Tide added two more commitments Wednesday morning, pushing its class to No. 10 in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Saivion Smith, the No. 1 junior college cornerback in the country, announced his pledge on Twitter Wednesday afternoon. Smith played this season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after spending his freshman year at LSU, where he enrolled as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 cornerback in the 2016 recruiting class.

Smith was mostly a reserve at LSU during the 2016 season.

“Throughout the past 6 months, I’ve matured on and off the field,” Smith wrote in a message posted to his Twitter account Wednesday. “MGCCC humbled me beyond measure.”

Both Smith and Joseph bring bodies to a position of dire need. Tide starting cornerbacks Anthony Averett and Levi Wallace are both seniors, as are defensive backs Hootie Jones and Tony Brown.

Joseph committed late Tuesday night following an in-home visit from Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

Tight end Michael Parker gave his verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide on Wednesday morning, the second prospect to commit to Alabama’s 2018 recruiting class in as many days.

Listed at 6-foot-6, Parker is a consensus three-star player who held offers from Auburn and Central Florida. Parker’s brother, Jacob, is a senior walk-on tight end at Alabama.

A Huntsville native who attends Westminster Christian Academy, Parker is the Tide’s second in-state commitment in the 2018 class, joining Mobile cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis.

Alabama now has 14 commitments in its 2018 recruiting class. The two Wednesday commitments pushed the Crimson Tide’s class to No. 10 in Rivals’ team rankings and No. 10 in the 247Sports composite rankings.
