Several transported following Hwy. 13 accident
PIERCE — Four people were transported to hospitals Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle accident on Highway 13 about four miles south of here.
A 1979 GMC pickup driven by Denby Fairbanks, 45, of Norfolk and a 2007 Chevy Suburban driven by Brittany Craft, 28, of Osmond were involved in the accident at about 4:30 p.m., with both vehicles coming to a stop in the east ditch.
Cody Thomas, public relations director for the Nebraska State Patrol, said it appeared Fairbanks crossed the center line and caused the crash. The details of the accident are still under investigation.
Fairbanks was pinned in his vehicle for about a half an hour before he was removed, with first-responders using the Jaws of Life. He was transported for medical attention by Pierce Rescue.
Craft had two children in her vehicle who were transported as well, though it was not immediately clear if they were injured.
Thomas said Craft and the children were properly restrained in the vehicle, but it is unknown at this point if Fairbanks was wearing a seat belt.
Also responding to was the Pierce Volunteer Fire Department and Hadar Fire & Rescue.
A mile-long portion of Highway 13 was closed to traffic for nearly an hour. The investigation is ongoing.
