Abandoned boat found in Louisiana; 2 bodies recovered
NEW ROADS, La. (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine what happened to two men whose bodies were pulled from a Louisiana river after an abandoned boat was found floating nearby, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Tuesday.
State agents, Pointe Coupee Parish deputies and rescue teams began searching the waters near the Atchafalaya Port in Pointe Coupee Parish on Friday morning after the 17-foot (5-meter) vessel was discovered unoccupied, the Wildlife and Fisheries Department said in a statement.
The body of Larry J. Deville, 61, of Ville Platte, was recovered that afternoon, and the body of Larry L. Lefleur, 76, also of Ville Platte, was recovered Sunday, according to the department. Both men were found without life jackets on.
Officials said they didn’t know how the men ended up in the water. The Wildlife and Fisheries Department is continuing to investigate.
