SCC baseball continues to roll
The Southeast Community College baseball team is having another great year as they approach the end of the regular season.
The Storm swept four games from Dakota County Tech over the weekend at Christensen Field in Beatrice to bring their record to 32-10 on the season.
They won the first game on Saturday 5-1 in seven innings. Kayleb Sanderson gave up a run in the first inning, but then shut down Dakota County Tech the rest of the way.
Sanderson’s final line was seven innings pitched, giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out 11 and walking none.
Masen Prososki led the offense with two singles, a run, and RBI and two stolen bases. Alec Lee had a double and an RBI while Will Hanafan, Aaron Palensky, Jacob Arizpe, Dawson Degnan and Trevor Jurjevich had a single each.
In the second game on Saturday, SCC won 12-5. Dakota County jumped out to a 3-1 lead early, but SCC fought back to take a 4-3 lead before scoring five runs in the fifth inning to pull away.
Joseph Vargas pitched five innings for the Storm, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits while striking out five and walking two.
Blake Price gave up a run in relief work while Xavlier Bradley Rael pitched the final two innings for the save. He gave up no hits while walking just one.
Offensively, Russ Lowe just missed the cycle. He had a single, a double, a triple, five RBI’s and two runs scored. Trevor Jujevich had two singles, two RBI’s and a run scored. Alec Lee and David Fleita had a single each and three runs scored each.
Masen Prososki had a single, two RBI’s and a run scored while Chris Cornish and David Fleita had a single each. Fleita scored three runs.
On Sunday, SCC won the first game 15-5 in six innings. They scored 12 of their 15 runs in the first three innings to put the game away early.
Mark Timmis got the win for the Storm, pitching four innings and giving up two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking three. Kayleb Sanderson pitched the final two innings.
SCC’s offense exploded for 15 hits in the game, including five total home runs. Alec Lee had two of those home runs and six total RBI’s while Masen Prososki, Aaron Palensky and Dawson Degnan had a home run each.
Will Hanafan had a triple and two doubles while Cornish, Brenton Davis, Arizpe and Degnan had a double each.
In the finale on Sunday, SCC defeated Dakota County 11-5.
Trevor Jurjevich, Ruben Ramirez, Josh Lallier and Taliesin Tardrew-O’Meara all combined to pitch the win. Jurjevich was the pitcher of record, pitching two innings and giving up two earned run on four hits while striking out three and walking one.
Prososki, and Palensky both had a home run and a double in the game while Alec Lee homered and Brenton Davis and David Fleita had a double each.
SCC will be in action at home again this weekend against Pratt Community College. On Saturday, the two teams will play at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Christensen Field. Sunday’s game is scheduled for noon.
It will be the final regular season home games of the year for the Storm baseball team. They wrap up their season with a road game at Highland CC on May 1 before a weekend series at MCC-Longview in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
