Lamar men’s basketball season to continue

March 13, 2017 GMT

Lamar men’s basketball’s five-year postseason drought is over.

Lamar coach Tic Price confirmed Sunday his team will face Texas State in the first round of this week’s CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Price said a date or location for the game has yet to be finalized but according to tournament’s official website, the teams will play Thursday at Texas State (start time TBA).

“This should be a great experience for our players,” Price said.

Lamar last played in the postseason in the 2011-12 season, when the Cardinals won the Southland Conference Tournament and played Vermont in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinals (19-14, 10-8 Southland) finished in sixth place in the conference this season and lost in the quarterfinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament to Stephen F. Austin last Thursday.

Texas State, which features Central product Nijal Pearson, lost Sunday to Troy in the Sun Belt title game.
