Galaxy 17, Machine 7
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ Mike Perez threw two touchdown passes to Jason Johnson in Frankfurt’s 17-7 victory over Montreal in the WLAF on Saturday.
Perez connected with Johnson on a 2-yard score in the second quarter and a 50-yard completion on the Galaxy’s first play of the second half to lead 14-0. Cornerback Joe Greenwood’s interception set up Frankfurt’s second score.
Montreal (2-4) pulled within a touchdown as Michael Proctor threw a 32-yard score to Willie Sneed with 9:08 remaining in the game.
Frankfurt (4-2) closed the scoring on Tom Whelihan’s 32-yard field goal.
The Galaxy defense, ranked second in the league, sacked Proctor four times and forced several hurried pass attempts.
Despite the two touchdowns, Johnson was not pleased with his performance, pointing to several dropped passes.
″I’m not very happy about this game, to be honest,″ the 5-foot-10 inch, 178 pound receiver from Illinois State said. ″It won’t be pretty in the team meeting Monday morning.″
Despite the drops - six in the first half - Perez was not critical.
″Dropped passes are part of the game, Perez said. ″We can’t worry about it.″
The victory keeps Frankfurt in the race for a WLAF playoff wild card berth.
