North Haven driver charged in fatal pedestrian accident
HAMDEN - A 28-year-old driver from North Haven has been arrested in a pedestrian’s death on Dixwell Avenue last summer.
The driver, Courtney Bothwell, was traveling southbound on Dixwell Avenue and was merging onto Old Dixwell Avenue when the accident occurred on July 20.
Capt. Ronald Smith said the investigation revealed that Kristin Wilczynski, 50, of North Haven was attempting to cross the street, when she was struck by a motor vehicle that was driven by Bothwell.
Hamden police and Fire Department personnel rendered medical assistance.
Wilczynski was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.
Officer Kevin Hall conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Bothwell. The court approved the arrest warrant application.
On Wednesday, Bothwell was arrested and charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to exercise cue care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian and distracted driving/not a cell phone. Bothwell, who was released on a written promise to appear, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 14.
