Grads awarded Pals scholarships
COLUMBUS -- Three area graduating seniors recently received $400 scholarships from Big Pals-Little Pals.
Receiving the awards were Brianna Hammer and Mariah Watchorn of Columbus High and Jessica Tschantre of Twin River High School.
Hammer will be attend Central Community College, majoring in early childhood education. Hammer and her Big Pal, Jo Gillette, have been members of Big Pals-Little Pals for 12 years.
Watchorn also will be attending Central Community College and is undecided about her major, but will be playing softball for the Raiders next year. Watchorn and her Big Pal, Alyssa Fischer, have been in the organization for four years.
Tschantre also will be attending Central Community College where she plans to major in nursing. Tschantre and her Big Pal, Denise Meyers, have been in the organization for four years.
Big Pals-Little Pals was able to start this scholarship program due to the generosity of its supporters during the Columbus Big Give.

Gaspers on UNO lists
OMAHA -- Jessa Gaspers from Columbus was included the University of Nebraska at Omaha dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2015-16 academic year and the chancellor’s list for the fall semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
The chancellor’s list requires a minimum grade point average of 4.0, and the dean’s list requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5.
Gaspers, who is studying psychology, is the daughter of John and Alice Gaspers of Columbus.
Dahl on dean’s list at DWU
MITCHELL, S.D. — Nathan Dahl, a senior from Rising City, was named to the 2016 spring dean’s list at Dakota Wesleyan University.
He is the son of Mark and Cindy Dahl of Rising City.
To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must have a minimum semester grade point average of 3.5 while completing at least 12 hours of academic work during the semester.
