Investigation of ex-professor finds years of sex harassment
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A University of Tennessee investigation has found that a former professor repeatedly violated the school’s sexual harassment policy for years.
The Knoxville News Sentinel says it obtained a report from the Office of Equity and Diversity regarding alleged behavior of Henri Grissino-Mayer, a longtime professor and tree ring expert who resigned last year. The office heard allegations from 11 people, including current and former students, as well as some people not connected to the university.
Grissino-Mayer has denied the allegations. He said in interviews with the Office of Equity and Diversity that he felt he was “singled out because of (his) power and prestige.”
Chancellor Donde Plowman has called for an external review of the sexual misconduct investigation process. Plowman has condemned the alleged actions and proposed changes in dealing with reports of sexual misconduct.
