February 25, 2018 GMT

TORRINGTON — At its February Membership Drive luncheon meeting, members of the American Association of University Women Torrington-Wheatland branch elected new officers. Elected officers are: Co-Presidents Madelon Daniels and Janet Bass; Secretary Lynn Wamboldt; Treasurer Dee Ludwig.

The next scheduled meeting of the AAUW Torrington-Wheatland branch is Friday, April 6, at Sweet Lou’s Bakery at 11:30 a.m.

In the meantime preparations are under way for an April 10, Equal Pay Day fundraiser. Equal Pay Day is the symbolic day when women’s earnings “catch up” to men’s earnings from the previous year. According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, April 2017 Fact Sheet, women in Wyoming earn 64 cents for every dollar earned by men.

In recognition of Equal Pay Day, AAUW Torrington-Wheatland members are organizing an Unequal Pay Day Bake Sale. Monies raised from the sale will go toward scholarships. To apply for the 2018-2019 AAUW Torrington-Wheatland scholarship, interested students should contact the Eastern Wyoming College Financial Aid office where they can pick up an application form. Scholarships are awarded to students entering any regionally accredited college preferably, but not limited to, University of Wyoming, EWC, and Western Nebraska Community College.

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Although founded in 1881, AAUW in Wyoming was not organized until 1938.
