Desjardins to play next season in Sweden
Gabriel Desjardins, who was voted MVP by his Komets’ teammates, has signed to play next season in Sweden with Västerviks IK.
Desjardins had 33 goals and 67 points in 58 regular-season games, earning the team honor over Shawn Szydlowski, who was the ECHL’s MVP and leading scorer.
In the postseason, Desjardins, a 25-year-old forward, had nine goals and 20 points in 18 games, as the Komets reached Game 7 of the Western Conference finals.
They lost to the defending-champion Colorado Eagles, 4-3 in overtime Wednesday in Loveland, Colorado.
Desjardins also played two games in the higher-level American Hockey League this season with Laval and was scoreless.
This was Desjardins’ second season with Fort Wayne; he had 20 goals and 46 points in 64 games in 2016-17 and added five goal and six points in 10 playoff games that year.
