East Lyme woman, West Haven man face charges after Westport traffic stop
WESTPORT — An East Lyme woman and a West Haven man are facing charges after police pulled them over and found the woman had a warrant and the man had stolen fish in the vehicle.
On Thursday, police pulled over a vehicle after they saw it driving slowly through the parking lots of different businesses on Post Road East. The officer saw that the vehicle was missing a front registration plate.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 49-year-old Joseph Costello, of West Haven.
Police found that the vehicle’s passenger was Wendy Lynch, 43, of East Lyme. Lynch had an active warrant from Stratford Police for a failure to appear. She was taken into custody.
While this was happening, officers learned that Costello had stolen packages of fish from a Westport grocery store earlier Thursday. Police took Costello into custody, too.
Lynch was charged with second-degree failure to appear and was held on a $495 bond. Costello was charged with sixth-degree larceny and was held on a $500 bond.
Neither of them were able to post bond and were transported to court on Friday.
