Heard on the Street: Chick-fil-A expected to start cooking in late January
Even after all the presents under the tree are unwrapped, there still will one big gift to open for many hungry Med City chicken fans.
The wildly anticipated Chick-fil-A restaurant is expected to open in late January.
The Atlanta-based fast-food chicken chain has been building a 4,999-square-foot restaurant for the past few months in the parking lot of the Crossroads Shopping Center, at 1201 South Broadway.
That puts it just to the west of the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant, near the north corner of shopping center’s lot.
It will have seating for 135 people inside and, once Minnesota thaws out, outdoor seating for 16.
Chick-fil-A long has been on some Med City folks’ franchise restaurant wish list. In 2012, local fans created a Facebook page descriptively named, “Bring Chick-fil-A to Rochester, MN.”
Now that the building is up, the big question is when will they open and start selling spicy chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and milkshakes?
Just as Col. Sanders and his recipe, Chick-fi-A has kept that date secret.
However, local hospitality sources might have the answer.
The unconfirmed chatter is a large team of Chick-fi-A “openers” is expected to hit Rochester on Jan. 21. Then, the plan is to open up the Rochester restaurant on Jan. 25.
Of course, that’s not directly from the chicken’s beak. Even so, that date is from a pretty reliable source and should be correct … within a day or two.
