Watertown gets past Sauk Prairie in overtime

November 29, 2018 GMT

PRAIRIE DU SAC — Senior guard Alec Lauersdorf hit four 3-pointers for the second consecutive game, including one in overtime that helped seal Watertown’s 57-56 overtime win over Sauk Prairie on Tuesday.

“It was one of those no-no-no-yes shots,” Watertown boys basketball coach Travis Moulton said. “That shot put us up four in overtime and we never trailed.”

Watertown (2-0) finished with four players in double figures. Junior guard Kory Stas led the Goslings again with 13 points. Lauersdorf had 12 for the second consecutive game. Senior forward Noah Jeseritz had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Deon Nailing had 11 points including three 3-pointers.

“Jes had a double-double, which is awesome,” Moulton said. “We haven’t had many of those in my time here. He wasn’t on the boards in the first game (due to foul trouble). He rebounded hard on both ends tonight. That was huge. Deon hit three big 3s in the second half, which gave us a spark.

The Goslings hit a free throw to start overtime before Lauersdorf hit his final triple. Junior forward Michael Kuckkan helped ice the game by hitting the front end of the bonus.

Sauk Prairie got a game-high 21 points from 6-foot-5 sophomore guard/forward Brandt Wilson.

“They hurt us on offensive rebounding in the second half,” Moulton said. “They had two big guys who could play. Early in the year, you don’t get much film. Wilson was quiet the first game and we did not expect him to be as dynamic as he was. Their bigs were all-conference, no doubt.”

Watertown’s JV and JV2 teams also grinded out wins, giving the Goslings their second consecutive sweep as a program.

The Goslings open Badger South play at Monona Grove on Friday.
