Candidates line up to run for Larry Green’s council seat
Three candidates had signed up to run for the late City Councilman Larry Green’s southwest Houston seat as of Friday morning, setting the stage for a campaign sprint to the May special election.
Martha Castex-Tatum, the late councilman’s constituent liaison, was joined by former educator and council candidate Larry Blackmon, as well as community activist Patricia “Pat” Frazier, who lost to Green in 2011.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. Monday to file for the District K election, which is set for May 5. The city is maintaining a list of those who have filed, and a map of the district is available here.
Green, who held the post for more than six years, died suddenly in early March at 52.
