Border Patrol arrests 2 MS-13 gang members
Two previously deported members of the MS-13 street gang were arrested in separate incidents by the Border Patrol this week.
According to a news release, agents patrolling a remote canyon west of Nogales encountered 30-year-old Joel Santos-Funes, a Honduran national, after he illegally entered the country in the early morning hours on Monday. After his arrest, Santos was transported to the Nogales Station where agents performing a fingerprint and database records check discovered he was an active MS-13 gang member.
The next day, Casa Grande agents arrested 39-year-old Deyly Turcios-Giron west of Tucson. Turcios was transported to the Casa Grande Station, where agents uncovered his affiliation with MS-13.
Both men have extensive immigration violation histories, according to the Border Patrol. Turcios also had a 2013 criminal conviction for drug smuggling in Arizona. They will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for criminal immigration violations, the release said.
