Hayes is top speller in Putnam schools bee
BUFFALO — George Washington Middle School student Kaitlyn Hayes and West Teays Elementary student Landon Stonestreet will compete in the Gazette Regional Spelling Bee at Capitol High School on March 3 after being named winner and runner-up, respectively, in the Putnam County Schools Spelling Bee.
Held at Buffalo High School on Jan. 25, the Putnam spelling bee pitted 22 students in grades four through eight in a contest to see who was the top speller.
Putnam County Schools thanks its judges Sonya Shue (Asst. Superintendent), Lynda Rumbaugh (Adolescent Edu. Director), Debbie Shrewsbury (Elementary Edu. Director), and our wonderful pronouncer, Megan Tarbett (Putnam County Library Director).
“All kindly volunteered their time and energy to making this event a special evening,” Micah Osborne, spokesperson for Putnam County Schools, said in a news release. “Finally, thank you to our gracious event sponsor, Poca Valley Bank, for awarding our Spelling Bee Champion with a special savings bond.”
