Virginia man denied bail after 14 firearms are found in his vehicle

April 17, 2018

A mother became alarmed on Saturday outside the Wendy’s in Somerset when a Virginia man who had a gun made “unwanted suggestive comments” to her about her daughter, according to police.

Perry Nicholas Georgeadis, 63, of North Arlington, allegedly caused the disturbance, which resulted in a nearby dance studio being locked down.

The woman went to the dance studio behind the eatery and warned them of Georgeadis’ behavior. She said she saw he was carrying a gun. The dance studio was immediately locked down, according to Officer Jason Upton in a probable-cause affidavit.

Georgeadis was later located at Starbucks, on the opposite side of North Center Avenue, by police. Upton said he was carrying two guns: a handgun on his right side belt and a pistol in his left-front pocket.

He was wanted on a harassment charge in New Castle and he had an active protection from abuse order from Arlington, Virginia, valid until April 6, 2020, according to the affidavit. Because of the PFA, Georgeadis was not to possess or purchase any firearms, police said.

Police found a total of 14 firearms and various rounds of ammunition in his vehicle, Upton wrote.

He was arraigned on 14 counts of person not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms and one count of harassment, all misdemeanors, and a summary offense of disorderly conduct before District Judge Sandra Stevanus of New Centerville Saturday. She denied him bail.

Denying bail for a crime other than homicide is allowable under certain circumstances, Stevanus said. Her reason for denying bail was the inability to secure his appearance at further court proceedings and the safety of the community, according to a court document. Both are listed as criteria for denial of bail, according to state law.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday before District Judge Ken Johnson, of Somerset.
