Wossman High School coach suspended for start of 2018 season
MONROE, La. (AP) — Wossman High School will open the 2018 football season without head coach Dean Smith on the sideline.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association said Wednesday that Smith has been suspended four games and the school fined $2,500 for illegal recruiting. Wossman has also been placed on administrative probation for one year.
The News-Star reports Smith violated six by-laws by illegal recruiting of at least one student according to the LHSAA ruling. The alleged violations involved a student at Carroll Junior High. The LHSAA also has ruled the student in question ineligibile for one calendar year.
Neither Smith nor Wossman Principal Eric Davis could be reached for comment.
Smith joins West Monroe’s Jerry Arledge as the second area football coach to receive a four-game suspension over the past two years.
