Racing executive from UK to speak at upstate NY conference
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The head of British thoroughbred racing’s largest racetrack operator will be one of the featured speakers at The Jockey Club’s 66th annual conference this weekend at an upstate New York resort hotel.
Organizers of Sunday’s round table discussion at the Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs say the gathering will focus on strategies for improving the sport.
Simon Bazalgette, group chief executive of The Jockey Club in the United Kingdom, will discuss the world’s oldest turf club. Founded in 1750, the UK’s Jockey Club operates 15 racetracks.
Dan Singer and Mike Salvaris, authors of a 2011 study of racing and breeding, will discuss findings from their 2018 analysis of the racing industry.
The annual conference is held during the city’s thoroughbred racing season, which runs through Labor Day at Saratoga Race Course.
