Man pleads guilty to firearms thefts at upstate NY gun store

April 20, 2019

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 35-year-old Rochester man has pleaded guilty to stealing firearms from a western New York gun store.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Marcos Guzman and two co-defendants broke into Chinappi’s Firearms & Supplies in Spencerport, just west of Rochester, in August 2018. They stole about 87 firearms, almost all of them handguns.

Authorities say the men sold many of the guns on the streets of Rochester. Law enforcement officers recovered 14 of the guns the day after the theft.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office got a court order to shut down the business after the theft because it was the seventh time firearms had been stolen from the store since 2007.

Guzman will be sentenced on July 29.
