Palm Sunday kicks off holy week for area Christians

Sunday kicks off Holy Week for Christians throughout the world, with Palm Sunday leading a week of holy days leading up to Easter Sunday on April 21.

Following Palm Sunday is Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Spy Wednesday, which leads into Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday in advance of Easter Sunday.

Katy ISD school board

Katy Independent School District trustees will meet Monday, April 15, in a work study meeting at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane. The closed meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.

During the closed portion of the meeting, the board is scheduled to consider employment of employees for the 2019-2020 school year, including those on probationary contracts or those with one- or two-year contracts. The board is also scheduled to consider giving notice to those employees whose probationary contracts will not be renewed for the next school year.

Upon reconvening in open session, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., the board will consider approval of the personnel report. Also up for consideration are April 2019 budget adjustments and projects to upgrade campus safety and security.

Tax Day

Monday, April 15, is the deadline to file federal tax returns for the 2018 tax year. Tax returns mailed to the IRS must be postmarked by midnight April 15 to avoid any penalties. Those who are e-filing, they must be submitted by midnight.

Katy EDC meeting

The Katy Area Economic Development Council general assembly meeting is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, following networking and socializing from 8 to 8:30 a.m. A light complimentary breakfast will be provided. The featured presentation will be an update on the Katy Boardwalk by the city of Katy, KDW and Sueba USA.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls is scheduled to be the guest server during the Fulshear Katy Area Chamber of Commerce Chill Out Day on Monday, April 15.
