Vermont courthouse reduces hours
BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont courthouse is changing its hours of operations for its civil and probate divisions.
The civil division of the Bennington Superior Court will not change the hours for its employees, but public access hours have changed from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to 8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Superior Court clerk Laurie Canty tells the Bennington Banner the change “is due to budgetary constraints for security.”
State officials say a new contract with the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department that includes higher hourly pay for deputies providing security is behind the change is public access hours.
The Bennington Banner reports the court plans to use a drop box to accept filings from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
