LOCAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Cougars Hold On, Move To 16-0
Misericordia’s 13-point lead after three quarters got trimmed to five with just over four minutes left at Eastern.
But the Cougars quelled the rally and claimed a 74-64 win to move to 16-0 on the season.
Tessa Zamolyi led Misericordia with 17 points. Japriya Carroll had 16 and Rachel Carmody posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Erica Haefele handed out a team-best for assists for Misericordia.
At Eastern, Misericordia trailed by seven at halftime, 14 midway through the second half and couldn’t climb out of the hole, falling 75-67.
Misericordia’s Jason Kenny topped all scorers with 26 points to go with seven rebounds.
Tony Harding added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars (9-7, 2-3 MAC).
Wilkes’ winning streak looked be coming to an end when the Colonels fell behind Lebanon Valley on the road.
But an improbable rally carried Wilkes to a 6-5 win, its fifth straight.
Wilkes trailed 4-0 after two periods and 5-1 two minutes into the third. The Colonels scored five straight to take the win.
Brendan Logan had two goals. Tyler Barrow, Dylan Kuipers, Tyson Araujo and Nick Fea all scored.
Barrow had three assists, Kuipers had two. Brandon Gordon made 19 saves in goal.
Wilkes opened its season with a straight sets win at home over Immaculata, 25-14, 25-13, 25-10.
Ethan Speicher had six kills, four aces and three blocks to lead the Colonels, team-highs in each category.
Daniel Sales had 24 assists to go with four aces. JD Kirby also had four aces.
