Hurricanes host Bruins in Game 3...Portland hosts Golden State...Yankees host Baltimore
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Out of all the teams that made it out of the first round of the NHL playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes have been the worst on both the power play and the penalty kill, while the Boston Bruins have been the best in the playoffs on the power play. The Bruins bring a 2-0 series lead into Game 3 tonight as the series shifts to Carolina.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Warriors star Kevin Durant is likely out for Games 1 and 2 of the NBA Western Conference finals against the Portland Trail Blazers with a strained right calf. Golden State finished off James Harden and the Houston Rockets without Durant, who watched the final game of that series at home in the Bay Area. Warriors coach Steve Kerr says Durant hasn’t stepped on the floor since being injured in Game 5 against Houston. Golden State opens its series against Portland tonight.
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Yankees have 13 players on the injured list now that third baseman Miguel Andujar and right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga (loh-AY’-see-gah) have been added. Following a rainout Monday, J.A. Happ leads New York tonight when the Yankees host Baltimore.
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Padres rookie and cowboy-hat enthusiast Chris Paddack takes on another notable Texan tonight in a matchup with Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw. Paddack has become a fan favorite in San Diego for his Western get-ups, wearing cowboy hats and boots to the stadium on game day. Paddack might be coming off his best start yet, but Los Angeles has won every game started by Kershaw this season.
CINCINNATI (AP) _ Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks has been on a most efficient roll, something he’ll try to continue tonight against Cincinnati. He delivered an 81-pitch shutout against St. Louis on May 3, then followed with eight solid innings against Miami, allowing an unearned run while throwing 96 pitches. The Reds will counter with righty Tanner Roark.
