Plan to overturn forced school district merger fails
BARRE, Vt. (AP) — An attempt to overturn a Vermont school district merger that officials say is happening one way or the other has failed.
Though a clear majority of those who cast ballots in Tuesday’s special election in Barre supported the proposed merger, there were simply too few of them to alter the earlier result. The Times Argus reports Town Clerk Donna Kelty says not enough people voted to overturn the results of an earlier election.
Despite previously voting against a merger, the state Board of Education has ordered a merger of the Barre, Barre Town and Spaulding High School districts.
