Saints defensive end Alex Okafor leaves game against Redskins with injury

The New Orleans Saints lost defensive end Alex Okafor to an injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins.

Okafor went down on Washington’s final touchdown, tried to get back up and go back to the line of scrimmage, then took a knee and called for the trainers.

After being helped to the sideline and examined by trainers, Okafor was taken off the field on a cart.

Okafor, who was signed in the offseason on a one-year, prove-it deal, has been an exceptional signing for New Orleans. He entered Sunday’s game fourth on the team with 37 tackles and second with 4.5 sacks.

Without Okafor, the Saints would likely turn to a combination of rookie Trey Hendrickson and pass-rush specialist Hau’oli Kikaha.
