Louisiana State University rededicating WWI soldiers grove

November 10, 2018

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State University is holding a rededication ceremony of its Memorial Oak Grove in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

The event is happening on campus Sunday at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The Memorial Oak Grove was originally dedicated in March 1926 to honor 30 LSU men who were killed during the war. Thirty-one live oak trees were planted, one for each of the men who died and one for an unknown soldier, aimed at reminding people of their service to the country.

During Sunday’s rededication ceremony, the LSU Corps of Cadets will conduct a roll call of the 30 men. Their descendants have been invited to attend the ceremony.
