Vermont students holding Statehouse climate conference

November 16, 2019

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Middle school, high school and college students from across the state are going to be in Montpelier for the Vermont Youth Climate Congress.

The students will be at the Statehouse on Sunday afternoon.

Lili Platt, a senior at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury and one of the organizers, says young people will inherit what she calls “the dire consequences of climate inaction.”

Platt says the goal of the meeting will be to draft, refine and pass a declaration of freedom from fossil fuels and a resolution urging lawmakers to take immediate action to address climate change.

Organizers are expecting 150 people to attend the meeting. Members of the Legislature’s Climate Solutions Caucus are also expected to attend.
