Smith brothers attend Team USA training camp
Pennsylvania Shotokan Karate Club chief instructor Dustin Baldis and two PSKC athletes — Jared and Riley Smith — attended the Team USA training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs Jan. 13-15.
Baldis was one of five USA national coaches running the first in a series of 2018 Team USA camps. These camps will serve as preparation for the upcoming premier events held around the world that will begin the qualification process for the 2020 Olympic Games being held in Tokyo, Japan.
During these camps members of the Junior USA National Team were invited to attend and train along side the senior team. Jared and Riley Smith both had the opportunity to train with some of Team USA’s best athletes. They earned the spots on Team USA last year during the National Championships held in Greenville, S.C. and both won bronze medals at the Junior Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Smith brothers will have the opportunity to compete in Bulgaria, Mexico and Italy during the World Karate Federation Youth League events.
