Team official promoted to vice president-player personnel
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ Bob Ferguson, whose only title since he joined the Arizona Cardinals in February 1996 had been assistant to team owner Bill Bidwill, was promoted Tuesday to vice president of player personnel.
The Cardinals have been without a general manager since Buddy Ryan, who doubled as coach, was fired on Dec. 26, 1995. Ferguson’s new duties are not as broad as those of a GM or a football operations director, a position Bidwill has yet to establish.
Ferguson, 46, will oversee contract negotiations, college and professional scouting, drafting and player acquisitions and development. He will work with Vince Tobin, who coached the Cardinals to a 7-9 record last year in his first season.
