Lady Lions finish undefeated in district play

The Lady Lions (20-9, 14-0) beat host MacArthur 52-26 to close the season unbeaten in District 16-6A, Feb. 5.

The Lady Lions are first place in 16-6A and clinched the district title after their victory over the Wildcats in late January. Benjamin Davis, Dekaney and Aldine are next. Westfield finished in fifth place.

The girls team closed the regular season at 20-9 overall and are scheduled to face College Park in the first round of the playoffs, Feb. 11.

Spring (19-12, 9-4) beat visiting MacArthur 73-45 in district play, Feb. 5, and beat visiting Westfield 86-79 in district play, Feb. 8.

Christyon Eugene finished with 25 points vs. MacArthur, Keionte Cornelius had 22 points and Kwadron Holmes added 10 points.

Eugene also had 27 points against the Mustangs, Cornelius had 24 points and Pharoah Dixon added 21 points.

Eisenhower is in first place in 16-6A followed by Nimitz, Westfield and Spring. Dekaney and Benjamin Davis are next.

The boys team closes the district season at Nimitz, Feb. 12, and then head to the playoffs.

In soccer in district play, the boys team lost to Davis 1-0, Feb. 5, and faced off against Aldine, Feb. 8. The girls team lost to Davis 7-0, Feb. 5, and lost to Aldine 4-0, Feb. 8.

Dekaney

The Lady Wildcats (19-16, 9-5) beat host Eisenhower 51-30 to close the district season, Feb. 5

Amanda Ferry finished with 12 points, Saij Fluker had 11 points and Yvonne Forman added nine.

The girls team closed the regular season at 19-16 overall and is scheduled to face Oak Ridge in the first round of the postseason, Feb 11.

Dekaney (5-14, 3-7, three missing) lost to visiting Eisenhower 65-50 in district play, Feb. 5, and faced off against visiting MacArthur in district play, Feb. 8.

The boys team closes the district season at Westfield, Feb. 12.

In soccer in district play, the boys team lost to Nimitz 2-1, Feb. 5, and tied Benjamin Davis 1-1, Feb. 8. The girls team lost to Nimitz 3-1, Feb. 5, and faced off against Benjamin Davis, Feb. 8.

Westfield

Westfield (17-13, 8-5) lost to visiting Davis 85-83 in district play, Feb. 5, and lost to host Spring 86-79 in district play, Feb. 8.

The boys team closes the district season at home vs. Dekaney, Feb. 12, and will then head to the playoffs.

The Lady Mustangs (11-17, 7-7) lost to visiting Benjamin Davis 33-29 to close the district season, Feb. 5.

The girls team closed the regular season at 11-11 overall under head coach Valery Jackson.

In soccer in district play, the boys team beat Eisenhower 3-2, Feb. 5, and tied MacArthur 0-0, Feb. 8. The girls team beat Eisenhower 2-1, Feb. 5, and faced off against MacArthur, Feb. 8.

Frassati Catholic

Frassati Catholic (20-9, 7-7) lost to visiting Second Baptist 40-31 in TAPPS 5A District 7 play, Feb. 5, and lost to visiting Westbury Christian 76-58 in district play, Feb. 8.

The boys team closed the district season at 20-7 overall under head coach Chris Meredith.

The Lady Falcons (9-13, 6-8) lost to visiting Second Baptist 59-19 in district play, Feb. 5, and beat visiting Westbury Christian 50-20 in district play, Feb. 8.

The girls team closed the district season at 9-13 overall under head coach Edward Szurek.

In swimming, the Falcon girls placed in third place and won five medals overall at the TAPPS Division II State Championships, including gold in the girls 200 medley relay, silver in the girls 200 freestyle relay, Lauren Lacson won gold in the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 IM, and Genevieve Manning won silver in the 50 Freestyle.
