Philadelphia weather updates: Latest on snow, forecast, travel, closings
It’s coming. Mostly freezing rain is falling now but the snow is on its way with the National Weather Service predicting up to a foot or more for the Philadelphia region by the time it is all over. Schools and governments are closed, commuter railroads are operating on modified schedules and thousands of flights have been canceled to and from airports in the path of the fourth nor’easter to hit the East Coast in three weeks. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware until 2 a.m. Thursday. Precipitation is expected to turn to snow later this morning with accumulation totals of up to a foot or more projected in some areas by the time the storm ends tonight.”The snow will become heavy at times especially later this morning through early evening when snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are expected,” the National Weather Service says. Winds also are expected to build to about 15 mph.
