Salve Regina University names next president

December 13, 2018

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Salve Regina University has selected its next president.

The university announced Wednesday that Kelli Armstrong will replace Sister Jane Gerety.

The 76-year-old Gerety announced in April that she was retiring from the Catholic school Newport school in June 2019. She took the post in July 2009.

Armstrong is Salve Regina’s first leader who’s not a Religious Sister of Mercy. She currently serves as Boston College’s Vice President for Planning and Assessment. Armstrong had previously worked as associate vice president and director of institutional research department at BC.

Armstrong said in a statement Wednesday she’s, “deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as Salve Regina’s next president.”

She added that she was impressed by the “extraordinary warmth” of the school community.
