Schooners blank Westerners

GROTON — The Danbury Westerners suffered their second consecutive loss on Wednesday, managing only four hits in a 4-0 loss to the Mystic Schooners in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Fitch High School.

Sean Buckhout singled and walked for Danbury, while Walker Imwalle walked twice and Eddie McCabe, Justin Lebec and Chris Kanios all singled. The Westerners received solid pitching performances from starter Taylor Dye and relievers Nick Cardinale and Michael DeLease, who combined to allow only seven hits, one walk and three earned runs while striking out six.

Jonathan Signore, Matt Geoffrion and Anthony Garcia shared the pitching duties for Mystic. Freddy Sabido and Brett Rodriguez both homered for the Schooners, and Chris Winkel doubled twice.

The Westerners are scheduled to host the Vermont Mountaineers on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Rogers Park in Danbury.
