Italy’s hopes for a sweep of the three European team soccer tournaments ended when Chelsea beat Vicenza in the semifinals of the Cup Winners Cup on Thursday night and advanced to a final against VfB Stuttgart.

Mark Hughes, a second-half substitute, scored in the 76th to give Chelsea a 3-1 win in London that advanced the English team on 3-2 aggregate in the home-and-home, total-goals series.

VfB Stuttgart won 1-0 at Moscow’s Lokomotiv to advance 3-1. Chelsea won its only European title 27 years ago and Stuttgart has never won one. The teams will play May 13 at Stockholm, Sweden.

Internazionale of Milan will play Lazio of Rome at Paris on May 6 in the all-Italian final of the UEFA Cup. Juventus of Turin plays Real Madrid on May 20 at Amsterdam, Netherlands, in the final of the Champions Cup, the most prestigious team soccer tournament.

At London, Vicenza took a 1-0 lead on Pasquale Luiso’s goal in the 32nd minute. Gustavo Poyet tied the score in the 35th and Gianfranco Zola tied the aggregate in the 51st.

In Moscow, Freddi Bobic scored in the 23rd minute for VfB Stuttgart.
