Man charged in theft of $10,000 on the Avenue
GREENWICH — A man accused of making off with some $10,000 in merchandise from stores on Greenwich Avenue in January was hit with multiple felonies Wednesday.
Joshua Spillman, 40, of Roosevelt Square, Mount Vernon, is facing charges of larceny, conspiracy and organized retail theft over $10,000.
Police said Spillman was one of a number of suspects determined to have taken part in an organized theft on the Avenue.
“He was involved in a ring, to steak merchandise and re-sell it,” according to police Lt. John Slusarz, “It’s an ongoing case.”
Bail was set at $150,000.
Spillman was picked up at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, N.Y., where he was in already custody. Police extradited him to Connecticut to face the local charges.
Law enforcement authorities around the country have been seeing a trend toward the theft of pricey handbags and sun glasses, which are then re-sold online.
