I-18 reopens in Nevada after crashes involving 17 vehicles
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Interstate 80 on the eastern outskirts of Sparks in northern Nevada reopened after being closed for several hours Saturday due to multiple crashes that authorities said were caused by icy conditions and excessive speed.
The crashes involved a total of 17 vehicles and three people were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the Nevada Highway Patrol said..
At least eight tow trucks were summoned to remove vehicles involved in the crashes, the Highway Patrol said.
A Highway Patrol spokeswoman, Trooper Hannah DeGoey, said the highway was especially slick due to overnight snow.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris LaPrarie said impairment didn’t appear to be a factor in the crashes.
