Fox Chapel Area to host meeting on school safety
Residents of the Fox Chapel Area School District are invited to a public meeting to learn more about safety plans across the district’s six schools.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in the high school’s large group instruction room.
Administrators and local police are scheduled to discuss approaches to enhance prevention as well as response protocols throughout district campuses.
Earlier this year, administrators, local police chiefs and school resource officers hosted a similar session to discuss training and programs that the district uses to keep students safe.
“School safety is always a timely topic,” Superintendent Gene Freeman said. “We want to share, as much as possible, with our parents and community on our school safety measures.”
There currently are school resource officers at the high school and Dorseyville Middle School, both of whom also cover the elementary buildings.
Freeman said Fox Chapel Area staff routinely reviews lockdown procedures and they participate in active shooter response training.
The district during the 2017-18 school year established confidential phone and email lines for people to report safety tips.
People are encouraged to report anything suspicious. That includes anything on school grounds, in the community or on social media.
To access them, call 412-696-1420 or find an email form at fcasd.edu.
The high school is at 611 Field Club Road, O’Hara.
