Happy Camper for Sunday, March 26, 2017
Cheryl Leines of Hayward, Calif., said pickleball has come a long way in Hawaii — we even have our own vendors producing pickleball bling. Lori Finch picked up some pickleball wear between matches from a Kauai vendor during the Kauai Senior Games Pickleball Tournament (learned that Lani Sibayan and Ku‘ulei Takashima are twin sisters!) at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center (kudos to Melanie Okamoto, Jack Hodges and all those organizers on another great tournament!).
Penny Anakalea said Aunty Janet Kahalekomo is going to have a ratoon crop since some of her ohana are hapai. Aunty Janet had four generations of her family doing cultural demonstrations at the Grand Hyatt Kauai (great job with the weekend celebration, George Thronas!) where it was nice to see the University of Hawaii School of Social Work, Hawaiian Learning Program doing some real field work studying Alu Like (having Shirley Medeiros and her cruise ship kupuna was total chicken skin).
Mahalo to Coach Dennis Agena and his Kalakaua Basketball team on developing more basketball players (Coach Jason Caldeira said playoffs for the current spring basketball league is Tuesday for the boys, and Thursday for the girls at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center).
Happy Prince Kuhio Day!
