• Actor Patrick Swayze was on hand to participate in the ground-breaking ceremony for Planet Hollywood at the Mall of America. The entertainment establishment is set to open in December.
1968 – 50 years ago
• There will be a square dance this evening at the Northbrook Shopping Center. Persons interested in learning to square dance are invited to come to the event and visit with members of the Silver Square Dance Club.
Mr. B. H. Crissinger, Elgin, representing the Elgin Cooperative Creamery Association, has taken top honors in the cheddar cheese competition at the Minnesota State Fair.
1943 – 75 years ago
• Sixty years ago today, on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1883, a great cyclone left in its wake more than 30 persons dead, many wounded, property damage amounting to over $100,000 and out of which grew the idea for a hospital. Many old-time settlers recall vividly the day.
