Pancake event set to help injured firefighter
FLORENCE, S.C. — Howe Springs firefighters will be waiting tables for a good cause the morning of April 20 — a fundraiser for one of their own.
Wayne Lawhon, a 37-year-veteran of the department who currently serves as its chaplain, was injured March 20 on one of his job sites, according to a post made on the department’s Facebook page.
On April 20 the department will team up with the Effingham Church of God and Fatz Cafe on West Lucas Street for a pancake fundraiser from 7 to 10 a.m.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $10 for adults and $5 for children 8-year-old and younger.
“Let’s show Mr. Wayne that the community he has helped so much is willing to help him in his time of need,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.
The department has also set up a gofundme campaign for him.
