TEANECK, N.J. - Marshall University women’s soccer is away from home to open the season against Fairleigh Dickinson in University Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The match will be broadcast live on the Northeast Conference Front Row Network.

“I am really excited for the season to begin,” Thundering Herd head coach Kevin Long said in a release. “We are healthier than we have been in ages and our team is eager to get out of the gates. We have younger players stepping up their game and I think while we will still be able to see our possession-oriented style of play.

“I think this season will see a return to an attacking style of play we have grown accustomed to.”

Marshall has 24 returning players from a 5-11-1 team in 2017. Ashley Seltzer, an All-Conference USA selection, is joined in the senior class by Kylie Slusser, Peyton Miller, Julianna Smith and Courtney Andrews. Megan Bonelli, a junior goalkeeper, also returns. Junior Jordan Sackaris was the team leader last season with five goals.

Fairleigh Dickinson from the Northeast Conference was 9-8-4 last season. The Knights have their top three goal scorers back - senior Elma Kolenovic (seven), and sophomores Sofia Albertsson (nine) and Viktorija Miseljic (six).

“FDU is one of the best if not the best team in the NEC, year in and year out,” Long said.

Marshall stays on the road and heads to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army at 1 p.m. Sunday.
