Business roundups: Megaton beer lands in Kingwood, new Humble spot Country Smokin Burgers opens
Megaton Brewery, the craft-beer spot in Kingwood with a steampunk-and-apocalyptic twist, had its grand opening from noon to midnight Saturday, March 30. It is part of a growing industry within the Lake Houston area, which now has three breweries.
The brewery is located at 808 Russell Palmer Road, within walking distance of the Nathaniel Center. Some of the draft beers on tap are Motherlode, Iron Dome, NukaShine and more.
For additional information, visit megatonbeer.com or call 281-973-9043. The brand is also on the three main social-media sites Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as “megatonbeer.”
Country Smokin Burgers
Opened at the end of January is the burger joint next to the Valero gas station at 213 1st St. E in Humble. Both businesses have the same owner.
Other than burgers, whose Angus-beef and hand-formed patties are available in either one-third or half pounds, diners can also have breaded seafood with fries, po’boys, hot dogs and smothered fries. A kids’ menu is also available.
Country Smokin Burgers has presence on Facebook (countrysmokinburgers) and Yelp. Its phone number is 281-319-4680. The business also takes orders through DoorDash.
No more Mama Fu’s in Houston
All Mama Fu’s Asian House establishments in Houston have closed, including the one in Kingwood at 4535 Kingwood Drive, Ste. 100 in the same plaza as H-E-B. Visiting the branch’s website will turn up an empty page.
A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page dated last Saturday says: “It’s never easy to say goodbye. Regretfully, after 5 wonderful years in the Houston-area, Mama Fu’s has closed its doors on March 22, 2019.”
FUnatics rewards are still honored at other locations. Find them at locations.mamafus.com.
Mama Fu’s specializes in pan-Asian dishes, such as jalapeno brisket fried rice, drunken noodles with shrimp and pad Thai, and has locations around Texas, Florida and Arkansas — 17 in the former and one each in the latter two states.
Austin-based Murphy Adams Restaurant Group owns and franchises the brand since 2007. Calls to the firm’s marketing department to elaborate on the closure were not immediately returned.
